Comprehensive editing reviews a document with comprehensibility and usefulness in mind. Does the document fulfill its intended purpose? Is it easy to use? Is it easy to understand? Comprehensive editing can be applied to print or online projects.

There are no rule books for comprehensive editing. It is based on a systematic analysis of each situation looking at audience, purpose, scope, organization, visual design and style. From there, we make recommendations for improvement based on the principles of user-centered design and good writing.

Comprehensive editing is best done early in a project’s life cycle, but can be employed at any stage.
